Target Design Conciliation & Application Review

Targets engineering team along with the customer determined the critical requirements for this machine application were:

Ease of integration with existing extruding line.

High torque and speed requirements with fast acceleration and deceleration.

Selection of product to withstand harsh environment and high temperatures

Determination of the best motor and drive technology for this application.

Product Technology Selected

High performance and speed requirements determined that the best motor technology was a brushless servo system. The Danaher Motion AKM series motor was selected due to its low motor inertia and high torque capabilities. This enabled us to achieve the

high acceleration and deceleration requirements demanded of the motor. The Danaher S200 brushless servo drive was selected due to its ease of implementation and high performance.

Design Implementation

Servo sizing tools helped to select the proper size motor and drive for this machine. The actual performance exceeded expectations. The modularity of this product makes this machine easily retrofitable into existing extrusion lines. The increased performance meets the demanding requirements of new product lines.

Overall Success

Increased performance and reduced cost are always the ingredients for success. This new drive and motor combination sells for less than the old motor alone. Targets value added capabilities supplied cables to make the package complete.
